To say my experience with Budget House has been life-changing is an understatement.

At 35 and a single mum, I felt I had wasted all my single money-making years and would be struggling living day-to-day for the rest of my life. I never understood budgeting and didn't value the importance of and the empowerment that comes with understanding my finances until I went through the Development Hub's Initiate Wahine course at the start of the year.

We had a visit from a financial mentor from Budget House, and the way she spoke about money made it seem like I might actually be able to get on top of my financial situation!

With the non-judgmental support of the lovely wahine at Budget House, and total honesty about my financial situation, we came up with an actual achievable way forward that is based on my own goals, not what I "should" be doing.

Facing my financial situation with Budget House's support made me realise ...

    it is fixable!

They have taught me skills to forecast and adjust my budget according to life, and to have a play around with job opportunities to see if they can realistically work. I didn't think t was possible to cut costs even further but they have shared some amazing tips and tricks. I am now excited to be creative in cutting costs now that I have a future to look forward to and can actually see.

They have helped me see that even just a couple of dollars a week really does add up over time.

Budget House has given me self-confidence and empowerment, and I am so excited to one day be able to afford to take my son on adventures!
